uneasy goodbye

A local group of patriots make an effort to show support for soldiers when they leave for duty or return home. On this day, Marine Cpl. Daniel Hickey left for a second enlistment. He already spent four years in the Marines and was awarded the Sliver Star for saving his vehicle commander during a fire fight. Being a Marine is the only profession Hickey knows, which is why he signed up for another enlistment — there were no jobs for him when he returned home. With a wife and son, he has no choice but return to fight for his family and a country that can’t even employ it’s protectors of freedom.

patriot guard


We went to a Vietnam veteran’s funeral for a story on the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of mainly Vietnam veterans who believe that every veteran deserves a military honors funeral. I didn’t realize that the Honor Guard was going to be there as well.
